About 300 aggrieved members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have defected to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The report quoted the defectors as saying that they held various positions in the NPP and were leaving the party because of what they called leadership paralysis under Nana Akufo-Addo.
The defectors said Akufo-Addo was a trouble maker who would cause NPP’s defeat in the December 7 election.
They praised Mahama as a unifier and a respectful and an exceptional leader who they said had offered opportunities for young people to help bring the best out of them.
The 300 were reportedly led by four former elected assembly members in various districts in the Ashanti region, including Osei Sarfo Kantanka, a former Assembly member for Ohwimase in Kumasi, Eric Assibey who used to be assembly member for Kwadaso North, Comfort Ahenkorah, a former Assembly Member for Manhyia, and Henry Osei Akoto, a former Assembly Member for Bomso and a former NPP Bomso Ward coordinator.
The development will come as a blow to the NPP’s campaign with just seven days before the December elections.
